About the Brand
salt actually makes things taste even sweeter.
Identical in appearance but completely opposite in taste. Despite the variance in the receptors they activate on the taste buds, research has actually proven sugar and salt are extremely complementary to one another. In fact, the taste buds contain additional sweetness receptors that are not even stimulated until in the presence of salt.

About the Creator
FROM CROSSBARS TO CANDLES
My name is Carlie Queen, and I am the owner of Sugar & Salt Candle Co. Life has taken me on quite an unexpected journey that has certainly been full of lots of sweet and salty moments, all of which have led me to the development of this company, providing me with the ability to live out my passion each day... just not the passion that I thought would be the main chapter in my life story.
At eight years old, I joined a local track and field team and was introduced to the high jump event, which I quickly learned I had a talent for. From ages 8-18, I competed all over the country, winning a total of 21 National Championships. My dreams and goals were all high jump-oriented, involving achieving certain heights, winning certain meets, and competing on certain stages. As most young athletes, I had always desired to compete at the Division I level in college, and due to my continued success on the national stage throughout my entire career, I anticipated not only to achieve this goal but also to be very competitive at that level. After accepting a scholarship to compete at the University of Arkansas, undergoing surgery, transferring to the University of Nebraska, suffering from multiple recurring injuries, and battling many other life obstacles, I made the tough decision to medically retire... without ever getting to compete in ONE college track meet.
My entire college career, I felt as if I was fighting an uphill battle, forcing something that I felt was my destiny but in reality was never meant to be.
All my life I have possessed a creativity that was rarely showcased due to my high degree of involvement in my sport. After coming to terms with the fact that my high jump dreams were not meant to be, my creative side received its time in the spotlight as I began learning the process of candle making and building my brand. I began to realize that every skill I had learned throughout my career as a high jumper perfectly prepared me for my future as an entrepreneur.
The struggles I have been through have truly enhanced my gratefulness for where life’s journey has taken me, as I feel it was what was meant for me all along.
The day I retired from my sport, I thought my story was over. Little did I know... it was just beginning.
